
Ashley Smith was a 19 year old who died in custody at Grand Valley Federal Institution in Kitchener, Ontario. The conditions of Ashley’s detention were deplorable and dehumanizing. Lawyers Julian Falconer, Julian Roy, and Meaghan Daniel of Falconers LLP represented the Smith Family at the Inquest into Ashley’s death.
On December 19, 2013, the jury at the Inquest returned a verdict of homicide, along with 104 recommendations.
