Falconers LLP Lawyer featured on CBC’s Metro Morning Segment
On May 14, 2018, Falconers LLP lawyer, Akosua Matthews was featured on CBC’s Metro Morning segment, hosted by Matt Galloway.
Ms. Matthews has been working in the area of Indigenous Child Welfare, before the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal, on behalf of Nishnawbe Aski Nation for the past two years. The interview discusses the January 26, 2016, Tribunal decision in this case: First Nations Child and Family Caring Society of Canada et al. v. Attorney General of Canada. The 2016 decision found that Canada is racially discriminating against 163,000 First Nations children by not providing equitable funding for child and family services to Indigenous children and families.
In addition, Akosua mentions her community work involvement on the Boards of the YMCA of the Greater Toronto Area (as the youngest Board member) and the Regent Park Community Health Centre (as the Vice-President). Akosua has been nominated to be one of Canadian Lawyer magazine’s “Top 25 Most Influential Lawyers in Canada” for 2018, in the “Young Influencers” category.
