Death of Stacy DeBungee: Livestream of Closing Submissions in Harrison/Whipple Police Disciplinary Proceeding

Thunder Bay, ON –

On June 16, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. EST [updated], Falconers LLP will appear on behalf of the family of Stacy DeBungee and community of Rainy River First Nations (RRFN), to make closing submissions in the Police Services Act disciplinary hearing against Staff-Sgt. Shawn Harrison and Det. Shawn Whipple, over their alleged failures to investigate the death of Stacy DeBungee.

The hearing follows decades of systemically racist policing by the Thunder Bay Police Service, as documented in painstaking detail in the OIPRD’s Broken Trust report and Sen. Sinclair’s Report on the Thunder Bay Police Service Board, which led to the dissolution of the Police Board.

In an important development for access-to-justice, the PSA hearing and closing submissions will be livestreamed for the public/media to watch.
