Ovide Mercredi Leads Nishnawbe Aski Nation (“NAN”) Community Health Transformation

Nishnawbe Aski Nation (“NAN”) is currently hosting a two-day Health Summit in Timmins, Ontario, bringing together representatives from Indigenous, Federal and Provincial governments. Click here to watch the live-stream.

NAN is embarking on a multi-year Community Health Transformation initiative, aimed at addressing systemic health inequities. Former National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations, Ovide Mercredi, has been appointed to lead the NAN Community Health Transformation team.

The NAN Chiefs declared a health and public health emergency for First Nations across NAN territory on February 24, 2016. NAN’s Grand Chief Alvin Fiddler stated “The chronic failure of the health care system for First Nations across NAN territory has left our communities in a state of crisis”.
