On Wednesday, March 18, 2026, Falconers LLP Senior Partner Julian Falconer and Senior Associate Jeremy Greenberg delivered a guest lecture at the University of Toronto Faculty of Law, titled “Supporting Safety for Indigenous People: A Journey of Change”.
As guests of renowned criminal law scholar Professor Kent Roach, Julian and Jeremy guided students through a discussion of innovative approaches to enhancing Indigenous safety. The lecture touched on topics ranging from the Ipperwash Inquiry (after the fatal shooting of Indigenous land activist Dudley George in 1995) to modern efforts at reform in the area of self-administered First Nations policing.
A Case Study, on the newly-developed NAPS Border Control Strategy, or “NBC”, featured prominently, with Julian and Jeremy discussing how Nishnawbe Aski Police Service (“NAPS”) has developed an innovative approach to tackling the problem of drug trafficking into First Nations.
Falconers LLP is honoured to support NAPS, the Nishnawbe Aski Nation, and member communities in their ongoing battle against illegal drug trafficking.
